![]() The new Dark Room Mode mimics the dark rooms that synth nuts like to work in at times. VCV Rack already offered Dark Mode, but it wasn’t exactly the most subtle or flattering lighting change. As pure aesthetics go, what I’ve seen so far looks great.Īnother new visual feature is Dark Room Mode. On the practical side, it does improve visibility patching can get messy. Where once everything was flat, now sits an array of 3D knobs and buttons. In plugin form, VCV Rack is more flexible and convenient than ever. But, on balance, if VCV Rack 2 were a brand new product with thousands of modules available, the price wouldn’t seem too unreasonable.Ī VST/AU/AAX plugin format was on top of many user’s wishlists for a long time. I know that as soon as a price is attached to something, it changes how people view it. Studio Edition will cost $149 ($99 intro/launch price) and function in both standalone and VST plugin modes. However, it still functions only as a standalone platform. The great news is that the Community Edition remains freeware. There will be two editions of VCV Rack 2 Community Edition and Studio Edition. The first and perhaps most significant change is that VCV Rack 2 can function as a plugin. We don’t have all the details about the forthcoming release, but the recently published teaser video reveals more than enough new features to be excited about. Scheduled for November 2021, VCV Rack 2 is set to bring a much-needed refresh to reignite excitement and showcase new features. It’s not the only virtual modular platform around, there are others like Cherry Audio’s Voltage Modular, but most lack the almost cult status of VCV Rack. This well-loved virtual modular classic will be overhauled in VCV Rack 2, expected for release in November 2021.ĭeveloper Andrew Belt put together something special with VCV Rack that pleased both soft synth and Eurorack enthusiasts. This VCV Rack software module uses the original firmware from the hardware Synthesis Technology E355 module.VCV Rack is the ultimate way to learn about and experiment with modular gear without buying expensive modules. To apply syncing and holding only to LFO1 instead of both LFOs, right-click the panel and set “Sync and hold” to “LFO1”. The HOLD gate input pauses the phase of both LFOs. The SYNC trigger input resets the phases of both LFOs. PHASE: LFO2 FUNCTION sets the relative phase of LFO2. ![]() MORPH: LFO2 FUNCTION sets the wavetable position of LFO2.RATE: LFO2 FUNCTION sets the frequency of LFO2.The second LFO, at the LFO2 OUT port, uses the same frequency, wavetable position (MORPH), and phase as the first LFO, except for the function specified by the LFO2 mode switch.įor each mode, the LFO2 FUNCTION knob overrides that particular parameter: The BANK switch selects which of 3 wavetable banks to load. The MORPH knob sets the wavetable position, modulated by the MORPH CV input and MORPH MOD attenuator. The LFO1 RATE knob sets the frequency of the first LFO, at the LFO1 OUT port. The Synthesis Technology E355 is a dual wavetable LFO that generates two related waveforms. This VCV Rack software module uses the original firmware from the hardware Synthesis Technology E350 module. This is useful for adjusting the timing and level of the output signal when used as an LFO source. In this mode, XY OUT plays the Z OUT signal except with an added phase shift (controlled by MORPH X) and attenuation (controlled by MORPH Y). Right-click the panel to enable “Phase shift mode”. The waveform’s phase can be reset using the SYNC trigger input, which can use another oscillator to produce a sync-lead sound. The MORPH Z parameter selects the wavetable for the Z OUT port, using the bank’s 64 waveforms arranged in a sequential row. The MORPH X and MORPH Y parameters select the wavetable for the XY OUT port, using the bank’s 64 waveforms arranged on an imaginary 8x8 grid. The RANGE switch selects 3 ranges of the COARSE frequency knob: C (PDF): Designed by Robert Rich with diverse LFO/modulation waveforms but can be used in the audio range.B (PDF): Wide assortment of male/female vocal sets.A (PDF): Sine waves in different harmonic series and a few organ drawbar sets. The BANK switch selects which bank of 64 wavetables to load: Wavetables are scanned using a glitch-free interpolation algorithm by Synthesis Technology, and the module can operate as an audio-rate VCO or CV-rate LFO. The Synthesis Technology E350 is a wavetable oscillator with 1D and 2D position modulation, including 3 banks of 64 waveforms. Buy Synthesis Technology Bundle 1 $60 $39
